On Friday I announced a Preorder for my album "Everything Underneath" on vinyl.
The response I got was really inspiring and a bit overwhelming! I want to say that I am very grateful for the support. This is my first vinyl release and it has been a long work-in-progress!
Before my tour in August of 2024 I did a very limited run of five records in black. These are now scattered across the Western US. Those records did not include "Lay Me Down" because of a timing issue. The new record includes the full track list.
This is a larger run of 200 vinyl in yellow. I was partially inspired by the old Orion Vinyl that came out on transparent yellow. I've got a small collection of Orion records.
"Everything Underneath" was inspired by shadows. The title of the album was influenced by the therapist I had that helped me quit drinking.
She told me that a lot of people have a reason underneath the drinking, something they were trying to bury and that many alcoholics struggle with ADHD.
That was my first time considering ADHD as an adult. I told my therapist that I didn't want to think about that.
As a Freshman in college I took a prerequisite class on studying... etiquette? The grad student asked me what I thought was a strength of my studying style...? I couldn't think of one, I told her that I was a pretty bad procrastinator.
She said "Maybe we can say you are good with deadlines?"
I started recording "Everything Underneath" in May of 2023 at Midtown Island Studios in Tucson, AZ with producer Matt Rendon. My band, "Them," consisted of Mike DeCosta on drums and Jesse Gallaher on bass. We recorded the core tracks live to tape in two days after a run of shows in Southern Arizona.
Additional overdubs were added in recording sessions in June and November. Session musician Clay Koweek added the haunting pedal steel on "Lay Me Down." Scott Landrum played the organ on "Halycon 8" and "Reminder." Matt Rendon added additional harmonies to all the tracks, as well as tambourine on "Want."
The album cover was shot in April, 2024 by Fernando Serrano on the Ridge Trail in Bisbee, AZ. We were on set of the Want Music Video, shot and directed by Sabrina Solo.
Thank you again for your support and for reading the blog. I am still figuring out what "this" is.
I am still writing chapter 2 chronicling my time in Mexico City last year, I wonder if that connects to the ADHD thing?

So excited to return to the Nick Rocks with the SouthEast version of Them! We played at the Nick last March while I was back in town and it was a lot of fun. I've been playing at the Nick ever since I lived in Birmingham way back in the day (and before that too). So excited to play with Bruh Collective and pals Brotha Josh .
